One thing many churches, both conservative and liberal, have in common today is that they are preaching salvation received only through Jesus Christ. It is the all important first step. But many who take that step with Jesus have stopped short in their belief of the Bible, and in particular, the account of the creation in Genesis. For them the theory of evolution presents the true facts and “In the beginning…” was just made up by unlearned men to sound poetic. A big reason why the Biblical account of creation is so discounted today is that for decades our public school textbooks, beginning in the earliest grades possible, preach evolution and an Earth billions of years old. One example from a 1989 high school textbook published by Holt, Rinehart, Winston, shows a picture of a fossilized starfish with the caption, “3.4 billion years old, the remains of the early ancestors of modern human beings”. I’m sorry but I find the Genesis account of creation much more believable than the human race evolving from a starfish. I realize science isn’t perfect but over the centuries laws of science have been discovered and all theory’s must be tested against them. The theory of evolution fails miserably when scrutinized through these laws and scientific observations. Newton’s second law of thermodynamics states,” Everything tends to disorder”. In other words, if something is left to itself, it will decay, rust, fall apart, and crumble. An easy example would be an abandoned house or car. Evolution figures, in opposition to Newton’s Law, that starfish, or apes, or amoebas, all on their own, developed, over billions of years into you and me. But there’s another problem with that. The Boyle Observatory in England has been taking careful measurements of the sun for the last 300 years. It has recorded and verified that the sun has been and is shrinking five feet an hour. If you believe in evolution and use the term, “20 million years ago”, you’ve got a problem. The sun, using it’s current shrinkage rate would have been so large that it would have touched the Earth. That would have made life here on Earth for starfish and other human ancestors rather uncomfortable. For the Christian, you’ve got another, bigger quandary. If you have accepted Jesus Christ, that he is the Son of God and, as such, embodies all truth, Jesus himself stated in Matt. 19:4 and Mark 10:6 that God created man and woman. Did Jesus lie? Can Jesus lie? Evolution attempts to explain the origin of man without God and modern science cannot admit they have misled themselves for well over a hundred years. To repent of such error would force them to explain why “they did not like to retain God in their knowledge” (Rom. 1:28) and why through teaching evolution they are training our sons and daughters to doubt even the existence of God. Evolution is not a fact, it is an unproven theory that has been swallowed hook, line, and sinker. Now is the time to spit out the hook.
