Intelligent Design

The newest scientific principle taking shape over the origins of man is found in the theory “Intelligent Design”. Though some may think it a propaganda tool of Christians in their fight against evolution, it is in fact a bonefide opinion of secular scientists. But let’s be clear about what this theory challenges. Scientists all agree there can be an evolutionary change over time, one example being the average height of man over the last 500 years has increased, mostly due to improved health care and nutrition. The term decent with modification also is provable by the genetics of biological reproduction. The big dispute
is over Darwinism; all life forms come from a common ancestor, that millions of years ago the same cells that became fruit flies also became human beings. It is in opposition to this
extreme of Darwin’s theory, that intelligent design rests, both upon science that affirms its possibility and science that refutes evolution.

One such study is irreducible complexity; defined as something that has a minimum number of parts that all work together to accomplish its purpose, and if you removed one of the parts it would no longer work. University Biologist Michael Behe explains it by using a mouse trap. It is a very simple machine with very few parts, and removing just one part, any part, would disable it. Transferring that parallel into biology, an organism would need a minimum number of parts in order to survive, missing one would cause the organism to perish. Darwin’s natural selection or survival of the fittest’’ would say that those incomplete organisms would die off without further development.

In the case of the mouse trap, the individual parts can function in other forms; the catch could be used as a fish hook, the clip, spring, and wood as a mini-clipboard, or just the wood
as a paperweight. To quote Behe, “The question is not whether you can take a mouse trap and use it’s parts for something else; it’s whether you can start with something else- a paper weight and unrelated parts- and make them into a simple mouse trap Cilia are little hairs on the surface of cells, made up of 200 protein parts; rods, linkers, and motors. The motor makes it move, the linkers hold it all together, without the rods there would be nothing to move. Cilia are irreducibly complex.

Darwinism can’t account for cilia. None of the parts could survive by themselves. Darwinist figure all their 200 protein parts randomly assembled, but nobody has figured out how they could have been attracted to each other in the first place, or survived long enough over millions of years in a disabled state while they “found each other”. They are prime examples of intelligent design.

David, in Psalm 139:14 says, “I am fearfullly and wonderfully made; and that my soul knoweth right well”. Would you rather consider yourself made by an intelligent designer after his  own image or that you evolved a little bit differently from your fruit fly first cousin? What do you know deep down in your soul?
